Explaining English Grammar to Non-Native Speakers

For teachers of ESL/EFL, useful ESL grammar exercises can be perhaps the most useful tool in the teaching arsenal. Learning grammar presents users with great challenges. There are countless rules, many of which seem counterintuitive on first glance, and keeping these straight while attempting to actually communicate in the language can prove frustrating to even the most confident of students. Developing practical grammar exercises for ESL students can help them practice using English grammar correctly. Grammar exercises should be repeated often, until the grammar rules become second nature to them. Most important of all, teachers have to make sure that they actually understand the nature of the grammar rules and how it can be explained in simple language to young ESL learners. This should be obvious, but unfortunately many ill-trained teachers fail to fully grasp the importance of taking the time to learn the grammar rules before teaching them to classes.
